Otter Pop

Otters are popping up from their riverside burrows — tap each one before it dives back in! Miss too many and you'll lose HP. Get through all 10 stages as otters appear faster and stay up for shorter and shorter windows.

Start slow in Stage 1 with one otter at a time, and work your way up to juggling five lightning-fast otters by Stage 10.

How to Play

About This Game

Otter Pop is a whack-a-mole style reflex game set along a riverside. Otters pop up from their burrows for a brief window and then disappear back in — your job is to tap each one while it's above the surface. As stages advance, otters appear more frequently, stay up for shorter periods, and multiple can be up at once, demanding split attention across the whole burrow grid.

Why We Built It

Whack-a-mole mechanics are timeless because they test two things simultaneously: reaction speed and attention distribution. We chose otters as the character because their pop-up-and-hide behavior is a natural fit for the mechanic without needing explanation. The 10-stage arc was designed so that Stage 1 feels approachable to anyone and Stage 10 genuinely challenges experienced players.

How It Works

Each otter occupies one of several fixed burrow positions. A spawn timer determines when the next otter appears, and an "up duration" determines how long it stays visible before automatically retreating. Both values decrease with each stage. When multiple otters are active simultaneously (from Stage 3 onward), the game relies on the player scanning all burrows rather than focusing on one. Missing an otter after it has fully appeared deducts one HP.
